Lymphatic Drainage Therapy

Natural Healing

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) gentle techniques closely mimic the body’s natural rhythms and aid the body in detoxification. It is beneficial for lymphedema post breast surgery and for other lymphedema conditions
A lymphatic massage session for women who develop lymphedema after breast cancer surgery starts with light hand massage technique on the surface of the skin of the neck. The therapist gently  strokes the skin in directions that follow the structure of the lymphatic system so that accumulated lymph fluid can drain through proper channels. Lymphatic drainage is very gentle, and is not painful.

Deep Tissue / Point Specific

Restore & Renew

Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). At the beginning of the massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prep the muscles. Specific techniques are then applied. The amount of pressure used will vary depending on individual needs and tolerance.  Helpful for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and back, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.  It is also useful to  work out muscle “knots” or adhesions  that limit range of motion and cause pain and inflammation. Deep tissue massage is also employed post-workout or after sports activity.

Oncology Massage Therapy

Caring for Clients with Cancer or Cancer History

As an oncology massage therapist I am trained to work on cancer patients safely and affectively so they can also benefit from human touch during this season of their life.

Oncology massage focuses on the comfort of the client and the side effects of their treatment. Including careful bolstering and knowledge of risks and precautions due to  chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Oncology massage can only be provided by a massage therapist who has received training in the specifics of cancer and cancer treatment.  This training is more about cancer and less about massage.  When you are receiving an oncology massage, you are receiving traditional, established massage therapy techniques that have been adapted to account for your unique health situation.  The changes that might be made to a massage that make it an "oncology massage" can fall under any number of categories, but typically they will be related to session length, pressure, positioning and areas of specific compromise or concern like mediports, bone metastases or skin reactions to treatment.
